Michael Jackson tribute album for charity: Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and more to be included

11 August 2009 01:57

With such a devastating loss of the King of Pop, many of the top artists of today are planning to take part in a tribute album to Michael Jackson which would raise millions of dollars for the charities that he cared deeply about. Among the names mentioned to take part in the album are Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, and Usher.

MSN reports:

Madonna, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Robbie Williams are among a host of stars reportedly planning to record a charity album of Michael Jackson's greatest hits.

Whitney Houston, Usher, Britain's Got Talent's Shaheen Jafargholi, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie and Take That are also being linked to the tribute album, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper reports that after several huge stars performed the King of Pop's hits at his memorial service, producers are asking them to record their favourite Jackson songs in tribute to the singer, who died suddenly on June 25 aged 50.

A source said: "The idea came from the memorial concert. Many fans asked if cover versions would be released and it seemed a wonderful idea.

"Some the biggest stars in the world have indicated they'd like to take part to pay their own respects and tribute to the King of Pop.

"This covers album is sure to be a massive worldwide hit with fans and could raise a fortune for Michael's favourite charities."

A live tribute concert is reportedly being planned at London's 02 Arena, involving the late singer's family and other guests, on what would have been his 51st birthday on August 29.
